Taking on the Middle East (English)

Autobiographical account of author's experiences living and traveling in the Middle East in the years 1962-65, including one year of U.S. military service in Turkey, six months of residence among locals in Aleppo, Syria, and extensive low-budget travel in Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Egypt. The book emphasizes interaction between the author and the people of the Middle East, with dialogues often in Turkish and Arabic (with accompanying translations). Includes maps indicating places seen as well as 32 pages of color photos.
